These subjects are taught according to the National Curriculum. They are approached through the study of selected themes and planned to ensure continuity. A range of resources and relevant artefacts are used with the children.
We aim to begin with the child's own experiences, giving him/her a sense of identity. An understanding of their own cultural roots and shared inheritance is developed from personal and local issues. Through topic work their experience is broadened to include more global concerns and to understand the present in the context of the past. By contributing to their understanding of others' countries and cultures, we would hope to eliminate forms of prejudice and encourage respect for self and others.
